How To Avoid Mindless Snacking

How To Avoid Mindless Snacking - BlenderBottle

Let's face it, we all get bored. Oftentimes, we can confuse boredom for hunger. Mindless snacking is one of the biggest hurdles for many dieters to overcome. A hundred calories here, a hundred calories there‚ before you know it, you've added over an entire meal's worth to your daily intake! Here are five tips on how to avoid the snacking trap.

1) Don't buy an abundance of junk food

Never shop when you're hungry, otherwise you'll end up with a pantry full of delicious-yet-processed carbs that will annihilate all your dieting hard work. Keep healthier alternatives on hand, such as nuts and fruits, for example. Whole grain snacks are also a great alternative that leave you feeling fuller longer.

2) Drink up

Since hunger can be confused for thirst, be sure to stay hydrated with plenty of liquids. By rule, be sure to avoid the sugar-heavy soft drinks and juices. Instead, keep plenty of lighter alternatives handy.

3) Occupy your mind

Find something active to do that take your mind away from food. Perhaps it's time to take the pet for a walk or go for a jog around the block. Maybe even take a trip to your favorite retail outlet. Whatever the case, don't do something that reinforces the mindless eating, such as watching television on the sofa, for example.

4) Blend a protein shake

If you need something fulfilling, mix some protein powder with your fruits. Check out our list of over 100 protein shake recipes for healthy snacks that won't make you want to head back into the kitchen 10 minutes later.

5) Don't skip your meals

The best way to make yourself hungry is to starve yourself. In our busy world, we often skip meals, but they should always be a top priority. Throwing off your body by skipping lunch is a perfect recipe for a binge session as soon as you get home. Be sure to regulate your hunger throughout to day to avoid that kind of food trap. And eat a light snack every couple of hours after a meal to avoid those late-evening cravings. Have any special tips to help avoid daily grazing? Share them below.
